Every few years a developer conference flips the table. Build 2026 did it for enterprise AI. Today, Apple did it for the other 2 billion devices.

WWDC just happened. MCP is now baked into iOS and macOS. Claude can replace Siri as the default AI on any iPhone. Xcode 27 ships with Claude, Gemini, and OpenAI built in — running agents inside your IDE while you code. Developer betas dropped this morning.

Meanwhile, a clock is ticking in Brussels. The EU AI Act’s high-risk enforcement deadline is August 2 — 55 days from today. If your product touches hiring, credit scoring, or critical infrastructure, you need an Annex III audit on the calendar before July ends.

🍎 Apple’s MCP moment — 2 billion devices, one open standard

Apple rebuilt Siri. That’s not the story.

The story is what’s underneath: Apple made MCP a native OS feature. iOS 27 and macOS 27 now ship with an MCP routing layer baked into the system. Any MCP server you already built — your CRM connector, your knowledge base, your ticketing integration — can now be invoked by Siri on a billion iPhones. You do not have to build anything new. You just have to be MCP-compliant.

The keynote dropped three things builders need to act on right now.

1. Siri AI is a real product now. Built on a new architecture developed in collaboration with Google’s Gemini models, the new Siri maintains conversation context across sessions, surfaces old emails on command, and connects to on-screen content across apps. It is not ChatGPT. But it is finally a peer — and it plugs into your MCP servers out of the box.

2. iOS 27 Extensions open the AI default slot. For the first time, users can set Claude, ChatGPT, or Gemini as their default AI assistant — replacing Siri at the system level across every Apple app. This is the App Store moment for AI assistants. The install base is 2 billion devices. The distribution window just opened. First movers get mindshare before autumn.

3. Xcode 27 ships multi-model agent coding as a first-party feature. Claude, Gemini, and OpenAI are built into Apple’s IDE from day one — not as plugins, not as extensions. Agent Mode lets agents run inside the iOS Simulator and interact with Instruments autonomously. Dynamic Profiles let you swap models mid-session without restarting your workflow. It writes tests for you, hunts performance bottlenecks, and flags interface design issues — all while you work.

Developer betas are live today. Public iOS 27 ships this autumn alongside the next iPhone.

One caveat for EU developers: Apple confirmed Siri AI won’t reach the EU or China at launch due to regulatory constraints. Your MCP servers will work globally — Siri AI’s reach in regulated markets clears later.

Why it matters. The question has always been: when does Apple actually matter for AI builders? Today is the answer. MCP just landed its biggest distribution channel: the OS layer of 2 billion devices. If you’ve already shipped an MCP server, you now have a working distribution path to every iOS developer who downloads Xcode 27 beta — today. If you haven’t, you have the summer to ship something real before iOS 27 hits general release this autumn. The window is specific. The date is clear. Ship or watch someone else ship it first.

🏛 EU AI Act: the 55-day clock is live

August 2, 2026 is 55 days away. On that date, the EU AI Act’s high-risk AI rules enter force — covering AI systems that touch hiring decisions, credit scoring, law enforcement, biometric identification, and critical infrastructure. Fines run up to €35M or 7% of annual worldwide turnover, whichever is higher.

A proposed extension to December 2027 reached political agreement on May 7, but it is not formally adopted. Until the formal legislative act is published, treat August 2 as the live date. Most US-headquartered companies have not completed their Annex III category inventory. Your action: map every production AI deployment against the Annex III categories this week. If it’s in scope, you need a documented compliance plan before July ends — not August 1.

🏭 Microsoft Foundry adds Claude Opus 4.8 to its enterprise model catalog

Microsoft’s Azure AI Foundry now includes Claude Opus 4.8 alongside its expanded roster of models available from a single enterprise control plane. The catalog gives enterprise teams a unified routing layer across Anthropic, OpenAI, Google, and hundreds of other model providers — one API surface, one compliance posture, one billing relationship.

If your org is already on Azure and evaluating where to run Claude for regulated workloads, Foundry just became the path of least resistance. No separate Anthropic contract required to get started. The model competition has moved to the platform layer: who controls the routing logic wins the enterprise account.

⚡ Claude Code ships “ultracode” effort setting + enterprise connector role permissions

Two new Claude Code drops worth knowing. First: a new ultracode effort setting — accessible via the effort menu — pins Claude Code’s compute to xhigh for the current session. When a task is worth the tokens, you now have a named dial instead of hoping the default is maxed. Second: enterprise plans now get connector permissions in custom roles, letting admins specify exactly which connectors each role tier can access.

The timing is pointed: Anthropic shipped these the same day Apple’s Xcode 27 opened multi-model competition in the IDE. They are not ceding the coding-agent market without a fight. Both features are available now.

Spicy take. The most quietly historic sentence from WWDC: Apple is co-building the AI layer of 2 billion devices with Google. The same Google that Apple pays roughly $20 billion per year to be the default Safari search engine. In the old world, “partner” meant competitor-at-arm’s-length. In the new one, your fiercest rival makes your core infrastructure and everyone shrugs. The antitrust lawyers are going to have a very interesting summer.

The question no one is asking. If MCP is now a platform-level OS feature on Apple devices, and Microsoft’s Foundry routes MCP-compatible models at the enterprise layer, and Anthropic ships Claude Code with enterprise connector controls on the same day as WWDC — what is actually left of the “model layer” as a business moat? Distribution and trust are the new model. The race started today.
